2024VSTE Annual Conference

JMU’s Center for Sustainable Energy (CASE) promotes the understanding of renewable energy through educational outreach activities.  This session will focus on capturing wind energy, converting wind energy into electricity, and inspiring youth to maximize the energy output of a wind turbine by participating in a KidWind Wind Challenge event. Attendees will explore numerous hands-on activities which integrate STEM strategies with leveled reading materials. The KidWind Challenge will also be explored and starter kits will be available for teachers that register to coach a team. Additional raffle prizes will be awarded.

Before we open our baskets, we will discuss the design cycle. We will define our goal for our design challenge, then we will open up our baskets to see the "must-use" ingredients. Other "pantry" items will be available. Participants will make a plan then implement their plan. We will end the session with sharing our projects and selecting the Chopped Champion. No cash prizes just bragging rights.

Join us at the Minecraft Education Innovation Station! Anchored in the spirit of exploration, this session invites educators to dive into the world of Minecraft Education, a dynamic platform for students to create, demonstrate understanding, and develop critical skills. Participants will immerse themselves in an interactive learning adventure, building their own structure while learning practical strategies, and resources for integrating Minecraft into teaching. *Participants attending this session should bring their own device with Minecraft Education installed and have access to a Minecraft Education account.

When most of us think of an anchor, a particular shape comes to mind. In truth, anchors come in many different shapes and sizes depending on their purpose. Just like in teaching, a one-size-fits-all approach just won't work for every situation. In this interactive session, you will experience how technology and Universal Design for Learning can go hand in hand to meet the needs of all learners in the elementary classroom. We will dive into the UDL Core Beliefs and Design Process, exploring the technology tools that can support out students' learning.
