Donald W. Sorah, Ph.D. is an innovative music educator, composer, and performer with over 25 years of experience. He serves as an Associate Professor of Music at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, where he is known for pioneering technology-driven music instruction. An Apple Distinguished Educator, Apple Learning Coach, and ISTE Certified Educator, Donald inspires both students and educators through his dynamic integration of technology, fostering creativity, collaboration, and deep learning.
Throughout his career, Donald has been a driving force in curriculum innovation, securing NASM accreditation for his division and implementing project-based assessments that empower students to take ownership of their learning. His students regularly release albums and educational materials available on major platforms, contributing to a growing body of collaborative, creative work.
As a composer, Donald’s works have been performed by professional and amateur ensembles across the U.S., and he remains active as a conductor, leading community ensembles such as Winds of the Mountain Empire. His service extends to providing music and educational technology consulting to educators worldwide.
Donald lives in Wise, Virginia, with his family and enjoys cooking, exploring new cultures, and finding inspiration for his compositions in everyday life.
